Line K on Cr Fashion Book

Line Kjaergaard had one of the best seasons a model could hope for this past fall. After premiering at Calvin Klein, she starred in the greats, including Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Givenchy, and Loewe, among many, many more. Her walk is immediately recognizable, complete with an emotional and intense stomp, and she has that unnamable it-girl thing that makes you want to be her best friend. CR sat down with the Danish beauty to ask about what Raf Simons is really like, the best places to visit in Copenhagen, and her love of penguins.

How were you discovered?
It was in Copenhagen (where I’m from), and I was 17 at the time, just shopping with my mom. I had never thought of modeling or anything like that before. I was like “Hmm…I don’t know,” so I went to a meeting and I talked to my parents, and we said “Okay, why not?”

You had a non-stop Spring 2018 season. What was it like to walk at so many shows?
This past year has been really good. It was crazy. Chanel was my favorite, because it was so weird and cool. I modeled back home, so I didn’t have to go into the season as a completely new person. Obviously, you get a “no” from casting sometimes, and now I can say “Ok, this is how it goes. It’s just business.” I’ve noticed that girls sometimes take that personally, but it was really good to have modeled before—I had some experience and knew how it was.

What has been your favorite moment so far?
Probably being backstage at Calvin Klein, right before my first show ever. It was amazing, and Raf Simons was so nice. There were a bunch of really talented people, and just being able to work with them was such an honor for me.

How would you define your own personal fashion?
I like to look at people in the magazines and mix their styles. I love this leopard print coat that I have on. It’s my grandmother’s. It was actually very long, but when she passed away, I got it cut. I use the other part as a scarf. If it’s really cold, I put my leather jacket under my winter jacket. My boyfriend thinks it’s weird, but I like how you can see my leather collar. And I wear leather boots in the winter.

What do you like to do when you go home? What do we need to do on our next trip to Copenhagen?
I’m from Hillerød, and went to school there, but I just bought my own place in Copenhagen, so I’m living there now. The first thing I do when I go home is sleep! Right by my apartment there’s a lake that I like walking around in. It’s beautiful. If you’re in Copenhagen, you should definitely walk around the lakes! You can see the swans, and it’s very Danish. You should also go to Tivoli—the park. It’s fun, especially around Christmas. Where else? There are a lot of nice cafes and coffee places, and maybe go to the beach.

Who has better street style, New York or Copenhagen?
I would say New York, because there are so many different people here. It’s not like that in Copenhagen, and you cannot wear anything in the world there. It’s so small that people would look at you, but no one looks at you in New York. In Denmark, it’s a lot about baggy clothing now. But I also like to dress in feminine clothes sometimes. You know, a skirt or something, and that’s not really a thing there. Everyone wears very boyish looks, which is cool, but I like how you see everything in New York and people dress up.

What do you like to do when you’re not modeling?
I like to just spend time at home. I’ll go out with my friends to a cafe and drink coffee. Going shopping is always good. I like the zoo, and other random, weird places. Or the Blue Planet in Denmark. It has a lot of fish, and you can do stuff there and interact with exhibits, like at a kid’s museum. I like the penguins. They’re really cute. You can watch them for an hour and you don’t get bored.
